One year ago, at the E. K. Bailey Preaching Conference, Dr. Tony Evans received the 2022 E. K. Bailey Living Legend Award. Presented by Pastor Bryan Carter, the Living Legend Award is presented annually to a “preacher‘s preacher” who has been committed to delivering God’s Word with passion, proficiency, and profundity for many generations. The award was presented to Dr. Evans, based on his commitment to spotlighting God’s name, His character, and His message of hope.
Today, the IM Christian Writers Association honors Dr. Evans with our writer’s award.

Dr. Tony Evans, born Anthony Tyrone Evans on September 10, 1949, is a highly respected figure in evangelical circles. He is an American Christian pastor, speaker, author, and a widely syndicated radio and television broadcaster in the United States.
Dr. Evans serves as the senior pastor to the over-9,500-member Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship in Dallas, Texas. He founded the church in 1976 with just 10 members. He also founded The Urban Alternative, a national organization that seeks to restore hope and transform lives through the proclamation and application of the Word of God.
His radio broadcast, The Alternative with Dr. Tony Evans, can be heard on over 1,400 outlets daily throughout the U.S. and in over 130 countries worldwide1. He has served as chaplain for the NFL’s Dallas Cowboys and is a former NBA chaplain with the Dallas Mavericks.
Dr. Evans earned a BA at Carver College in 1972, a Th.M. in 1976, and a Th.D. at Dallas Theological Seminary in 19821. He was named one of the 12 Most Effective Preachers in the English-Speaking World by Baylor University.
In 2017, he launched the Tony Evans Training Center, an online learning platform providing seminary-style courses. His exceptional ability to communicate complex theological truths through simple, yet profound, illustrations has made him a beloved figure in the faith community.
Dr. Evans was mentored by Dr. Charles Solomon, who also mentored Dr. Stephen Phinney. Both teachers are adamant about preaching on the believer’s identity in Jesus Christ.
